Coach & Team Staff Background Check Information

Information for Lorain County Hot Stove coaches and team staff.

All coaches and any person age 18 or older who assists players during practices or games must have a current background check completed through the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI).

How Long Is a Background Check Valid?

Background checks are valid for two Hot Stove seasons.

Lorain County Hot Stove uses October 1 as the annual eligibility cutoff.

A check completed on or after October 1, 2025 is valid for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
A check completed October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025 was valid for the 2025 and 2026 seasons and is expired for 2027.

Check Your Status Before Applying Again

Before completing a new background check, use the Background Check Status Lookup to see whether your current check is still valid.

The lookup can show your:

Current background-check status
NCSI file number
Completion date
Season through which the check remains valid

Need a New Background Check?

If your status is Expired, or you do not have a background check on file, complete a new NCSI background check.

The background check costs $20 and is paid directly through the NCSI application.

When Completing the NCSI Application:

Carefully complete all requested information and answer all questions truthfully.
Type your full name wherever the application asks you to electronically sign a disclosure or authorization.
Submit the $20 payment.
Monitor your email after submission. NCSI may request additional information.
Respond promptly to any NCSI requests so your background check is not delayed.
